Getting Ready for Kindergarten: A Smooth and Fun Transition
Starting Kindergarten is an exciting adventure and we want every child to feel confident and excited as they take this big step. To help make the transition smooth, we have a series of fun and supportive programs designed to introduce children to school life at a comfortable pace.
It all begins with a school tour with Mr. Walker, where kids get to explore their new classrooms, meet friendly teachers, and discover all the exciting spaces in our school.
Next, children join the Rathmines Rascals program, a playful and engaging introduction to school routines. Through games, stories, and creative activities, kids start building social skills, making friends, and feeling part of our school community.
Afterwards, the journey continues with Catalina Kids, where children engage in hands-on learning experiences that nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence. This program helps children get comfortable with small group learning, following routines, and exploring new ideas.
Finally, children participate in Kindergarten Orientation visits, which bridges the gap between these preparatory programs and full-time Kindergarten. During this stage, kids experience real classroom routines, interact with peers, and become familiar with the expectations of the Kindergarten day.
By the time your child begins Kindergarten, they will feel confident, excited, and ready for school.
Rathmines Rascals
Rathmines Rascals is a playgroup style program where parents attend alongside their children. Through fun activities, games, and creative play, children begin to develop social skills while parents have the opportunity to connect with other families. This welcoming program helps children feel confident and excited about starting school, while building a supportive community for both kids and parents.
Catalina Kids
Catalina Kids is a 10-week program held on Friday mornings, designed to help children grow, learn, and make new friends in a supportive setting. Children are dropped off and work alongside a teacher to explore fun, hands-on activities while engaging with their peers. This program helps build confidence, social skills, and a love of learning, making the transition to Kindergarten smooth and exciting.
Orientation visits
Our Kindergarten orientation visits are a wonderful way for children to get familiar with their new school before the big first day. During these visits, the kids explore classrooms, meet teachers, and begin to feel comfortable in their new environment. This is also when our Kindergarten students will get to meet their Buddies for the first time.
Buddy program
Our Kindergarten Buddy Program occurs during the first few weeks of the school year. Year 4 students team up with Kindergarten friends to share support and encouragement during Lunch and Recess. This wonderful initiative helps younger students feel safe, confident, and connected as they settle into school life. With a caring buddy by their side, Kinder students learn new routines, make friends, and always have someone to turn to for help.
